TNI News Service (TNS)
Webdesk, TNI Kolkata, 30th December, 2015: Government has taken initiatives in the formation of small self-help groups among the people in bringing out the cottage industries of Bengal through various ways. Sabola Mela, is one of such a platform given by the West Bengal Government to such groups of people to run independent business. The merchandise offered here are mostly made through handicraft procedures like stitching, knitting and etc. This provides a wider and bigger opportunity for the indigenous industries to get promoted. Sabola Mela’s Kolkata version is going on at Acharya Prafulla Chandra Park (Boro Park) in Kankurghachi from 25th December and is scheduled to continue up to 1st January. The fair is gaining popularity with every passing year. “Government provides loan up to 1 lakh 25 thousand rupees to each self-help group of which only 2% is to be paid by the groups and rest 9% is paid by the government itself,” said Mr. Sadhan Pandey, Minister for Consumer Affairs, GOWB. There are pavilions selling Kantha stitched sarees, hand-woven bags, powered spices and hand-made jewelry etc.
